Today’s message is on why you should rather prepare for eternity, and not just for the future.
[Luke 12:16-21 KJV] “And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.”
“And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Many of us are living like fools; because we are more concerned about preparing for a future that is not certain but we don’t prepare for eternity that is so sure. I encourage you to rather prepare for eternity and not just a future!
The Lord told a parable that when the grounds of a man brought forth bountifully, he thought of preparing for the future, and not for eternity. The man in the parable was adequately prepared for the future; he had plans for tomorrow and not for eternity.
Listen! No matter how well you prepare, one day, death will make nonsense of everything. This is the time to prepare for eternity and not just a future. I want to exhort you at this moment to prepare for eternity and not for the future because eternity is sure and longer!
1. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!
- According to Hebrews 6, you must admit that no amount of good works can save, except your faith towards God;
- Admit also that no man can live a godly life except he has received the fullness of the new life and spirit through baptism and impartation, and finally,
- Admit that the dead shall rise again and we shall all face the judgment of God.
Jesus, we know, is the way, the truth, and the Life. The name of Jesus is the only name given under heaven by which men out to be saved (See Hebrews 9:27)
2. Learn to work with your hands:
Prepare yourself to be able to work with your hands at something good and legitimate. Those who work can live an honest life toward them that are without. This is the commandment of the Lord that we learn to work with our hands. That is the only way we can live honestly.
3. Store up your treasure in heaven; give your best to the kingdom:
When you work, put your resources in heaven where moth and rust and thieves cannot break into. This is because where your treasure is, there your heart will be.
4. Don’t hold on tightly to anything earthly!
If you cannot contain, marry; if you are married, don’t defraud one another of due benevolence; whatever you are, or have, or have not, live as though you don’t have or not have it. Never hold on tightly to anything.
Continue steadfastly in the apostle’s prayer, fellowship, and doctrine. Let us press on and keep pushing. You must overcome!
[1 Thessalonians 4:10-12 KJV] “And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.”
[2 Thessalonians 3:12-16 KJV] “Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.”
[1 Corinthians 7:29-31 KJV] “But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; and they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; and they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.”
