Psalm 140:1-5 KJV — Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: Preserve me from the violent man; [2] Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; Continually are they gathered together for war. [3] They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; Adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.
[4] Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from the violent man; Who have purposed to overthrow my goings. [5] The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set gins for me. Selah.
Our prayer this morning is for the Lord to preserve us from a violent man; who has purposed to overthrow your goings. Many of us have not even considered the dangers of living with or having known a violent man. Many destinies and dreams have been shattered because of wickedness and the orchestration of violent men and women.
Sometimes, your undoing starts with one angry person. When people get angry, and their wrath and resentment is kindled against you, they will pursue all sorts of mischief against you. Many people have gone to an early grave because of the actions of the wicked and violent men. Many visions and business and marriages and destinies have been destroyed because someone, some immatured person got angry.
- When Cain got angry, he slew Abel
- When the king’s wrath was kindled against the guy who slew King Saul, he ordered his death.
- When Absalom got angry, he chased his own father, out the Palace etc
May the Lord preserve you from a violent man who has sworn to destroy you. May the Lord deliver you from the wicked!
Seven Dangerous people
- A king or prince that is angry with you. The Bible says the king’s wrath is like the messenger of death.
- A woman who feels scorned by you! Potiphar’s wife and Joseph; Jezebel and Elijah.
- An offended brother or sister. It’s easier to conquer a walled city, than to win a brother that is offended. Cain killed Abel; Absalom killed Ammon;
- A bitter or offended lover, especially a woman
- A husband consumed by the spirit of jealousy
- A son or daughter provoked to anger and wrath. These are dangerous sons and daughters. Absalom slept with his father’s wives and concubines in a market square; then chased his own father out of the palace. Judas betrayed Jesus Christ because of offense.
- A woman whose hands are full of snares or a bitter person.
