1 Peter 5:8–9 (KJV) — “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
Exhortation
God’s Word calls us to live with spiritual alertness. We are reminded to be sober-minded and watchful, not fearful, because we belong to Christ. The enemy seeks to distract, discourage, and weaken our faith, but he does not have the final word.
Peter does not tell believers to run or panic, he tells us to resist. We resist the devil by standing firm in our faith, trusting God’s truth, and refusing to give in to lies or temptation. We are also encouraged to remember that we are not alone. Believers everywhere face similar challenges, and God is faithful to strengthen all who rely on Him.
When we stay grounded in faith and alert in prayer, we can stand strong, knowing that God is with us and His grace is sufficient.
Prayer Points
- Lord, help me to stay alert and focused, walking daily in Your truth.
- Give me strength to resist temptation and stand firm in my faith.
- Encourage my heart to trust You, knowing I am not alone in my trials.
