[1 Timothy 3:13 KJV] “For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus“.
A deacon is one that is appointed to serve the brethren in para-church capacities. The word ‘deacon’ refers to a person appointed and ordained to serve the brethren in pastoral care. A deacon’s ministry involves ministering to the brethren, especially the aged in their homes. Being there to represent the pastor or bishop; and to care for the brethren. A deacon is an adjutant; a help to the pastor to serve and to wait on the brethren on behalf of the pastor and church.
A deacon’s ministry takes them to the grass roots and bring them in direct contact with the brethren. A deacon must therefore be of honest report, full of wisdom, and full of the Holy Ghost and faith. A deacon must be appointed on probation before confirmation if they prove to be faithful. Besides all this, there are two major benefits of serving as a deacon and serving well.
The Bible tells us that those who use the office of a deacon well purchase for themselves;
- A good degree in Christ
- A great boldness of faith which is in Christ
We must focus on using the office of a deacon well. We must keep faith and give our all. You will never regret it. You will obtain a good degree and great boldness of faith which is in Christ.
How then do I serve as a deacon and use the office of a deacon well?
- Hold the word of faith in a pure conscience.
- Be available to serve the brethren to free your pastor to study and pray
- Never use your connection with the pastor as a means to control or abuse the brethren.
- Don’t withhold information, always report back.
Stay blessed; I love you!
