[Acts 10:36-38 KJV] “The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) [37] That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; [38] How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”.
I want to speak to you today about the anointing. The word anointing, like most English words, is both a verb and a noun.
- The anointing is the process of smearing or the pouring of oil or ointment or spirit upon a person, place or things to separate it unto God as holy.
- The anointing is also that presence of the divine person and power of God that augments the strength of men to make them perform in supernatural dimensions.
The anointing, therefore, is a process and a presence, a tangible presence of God, that empowers and equips for supernatural exploits.
We learn from the text that God anointed Jesus Christ with the Holy Ghost and with power. If our Lord Jesus Christ was anointed, then studying His life, we can tell what the anointing is. The text teaches that the anointing has two elements: Spirit and power.
Acts 1:8 teaches that we shall receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon us and we shall be witnesses unto Him. How then was Jesus Christ anointed? He was anointed with the Spirit when He was baptized at the Jordan and with power when He waited in the wilderness (See Luke 4:1-16).
Two types of anointing
[John 14:16-18 KJV] “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. [18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you”.
In the text above, our Lord Jesus Christ speaks of two anointings. It is almost like two separate experiences, so to speak. The Lord speaks about the anointing within and the anointing upon; the within and the upon Spirits.
There are two types of anointing;
- The Spirit Within and
- The Spirit Upon or the Mantling Spirit
The Spirit Within is the anointing that you receive by believing in Christ. It is the John 7:39 anointing. This is the rivers of living waters that flow from the belly of a believer. This is the anointing that dwells within the believer to teach, convict, lead, and comfort. It is the Spirit that is given to the believer to be able to live the God-kind of life.
The Upon Spirit is a mantle. It is the anointing that comes upon a man or woman for ministry. This sort of anointing comes and can also be lifted. This anointing requires honour, faith, and an atmosphere to manifest. Mark 6:1-5 teaches how the Lord was “unable to do mighty works except to lay hands on a few sick folks and heal them”. The Upon Spirit must be honoured to be effective, it requires faith, and a charging atmosphere to operate. The upon Spirit requires an atmosphere for miracles and healing and importation.
We must understand the difference so that we would understand how to provoke and release them; Different strokes for different folks. We must admit that we need these two anointings for complete manifestation. We need both the Within and Upon Spirit. Remember that spiritual things start on the inside and not outside. You must really pay attention to your innermost spiritual health.
The Upon Spirit is activated by faith, worship, and prayer. It is, however, killed by familiarity.
I pray that the Lord shall cause a spiritual charging from within you. May you experience that change that starts from within. You will have a complete experience soon and your life will never be the same again.
Be blessed, I love you!
