1 Corinthians 14:14 KJV — For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
The Bible teaches that praying in an unknown tongue is to pray with your spirit. We know that man is a living soul, has a spirit and lives in a body. Your spirit man lives inside of you.
Through the baptism of the Holy Ghost, this spirit man can be empowered to both pray and speak according to the will of God. Apostle Paul teaches that, if a person prays in an unknown tongue; his Spirit prays but his understanding is unfruitful.
When we pray on an unknown tongue, three things happen;
1. We speak mysteries to God
We speak about things we are not even aware of in a way that supercedes intellectual understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:1-3 reveals that though no man understands him, in the spirit he speaks mysteries to God.
2. We edify ourselves
When a person speaks in an unknown tongue, he edifies himself. Praying in unknown tongues builds up your spirit man. Praying in tongues builds and edifies you.
3. We make tremendous power available
The Bible teaches the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous, makes great power available. When we pray in an unknown, we release tremendous power for effectual workings.
I exhort you to pray in tongues at least an hour everyday this week and let’s see what change it brings. May God help you to pray in tongues!
Benediction
May the Lord empower your spirit man to pray earnestly! May your prayers make great power available! May you experience the touch of Holy fire that purges and sets a man apart!
Amen
