1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV — “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.“
We have been talking about the beauty of always abounding in the work of the Lord. What then is the work of the Lord?
The work of the Lord is anything you do, say, or show that turns men back to God (reconcile men back to God); whether you did it at home, in the missions field, in ministry, or in the market place.
From little things such as
- Refusing your delicacies because of the weak faith of a brother or sister (See also Romans 14:15-23, 1 Corinthians 8:1-13) to
- Sharing your testimony, to preaching the gospel in the street, to praying for the sick, and to casting out devils
- Living chaste life at home (See 1 Peter 3:1-7); representing Christ’s in the bar or boardroom, or the saloon; leading your children to pray at the table as a house wife
- Giving an offering, serving in the serving, manning the cameras, to taking care of sound.
- Welcoming people to church, cleaning the chapel or washrooms etc
- Showing compassion to others; feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, visiting the prisoners, clothing the naked ( See also Matthew 25)
- Serving the Lord with your spirit through prayer, worshipping, faith, intercession for others etc (See also Roman 1:7)
All these, turn men back to God and are the work of the Lord.
On the contrary, anything you do, say, or show that turns men away from God, whether you did, said, or showed in private or public is work against the Lord.
From
- Criticizing the pastor
- Appearing worldly at your work place
- Sitting in the seat of the scornful
- Being rude at work and speaking inhumanely about others
- Being indifferent to the work of missions
