Psalms 107:17-20 — Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
(18) Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
(19) Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
(20) He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
In this passage from Psalms 107:17-20, we are reminded of the consequences of iniquity and transgression. The psalmist describes how fools, due to their sinful ways, experience affliction and suffering. Their very souls reject food, and they teeter on the brink of death as a result of their iniquities. This paints a vivid picture of the devastating effects of sin and the profound distress it can bring upon individuals.
Yet amidst this bleak portrayal, there is a message of hope and redemption. When faced with trouble, those who cry out to the Lord in faith are met with His saving grace. The Lord responds to their earnest pleas and delivers them from their distresses. This demonstrates the unyielding mercy and compassion of God, willing to rescue His children from the depths of despair.
The pivotal moment arrives when the Lord sends forth His word, bringing not only healing but also deliverance from destruction. It is a powerful illustration of the transformative power of God‘s word, able to mend the broken and rescue the perishing. In this, we find an enduring promise: that no matter the afflictions we face as a result of iniquity, our cries to the Lord will not go unheard. He answers with healing and deliverance, offering restoration to all who turn to Him in faith.
