And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:19-21 KJV)
Many of us are waiting for God best. We know that God makes all things beautiful in His time. We may be going through the worse time now but the best is yet to come. While we wait for the best, there are five keys we can engage.
1. Work:
While you wait for the best, it is important not to get stuck at the dark spots of life. It is prudent and expedient to carry on with your life’s assignment. Don’t put your life on a hold because of a bad day or a troubling condition. Keep running and attend to the things that are working in your life. The baby may have delayed in coming but you have a marriage and husband to take care of. I remember Pastor Ron Kenoly’s song;
If you touch hell, don’t hold it, If you are going through hell, don’t stop. Go ahead! Go head! Go ahead!
2. A thankful and grateful spirit:
The second most prudent and expedient thing to do, while waiting for God’s best and the miracle or breaks you are seeking is to have a thankful and grateful spirit. Sometimes, we tend to focus on the little black spot on the sheet of white paper and lose hope. Whereas we could have been thankful for the big white sheet. Many a times we have more to be thankful for than to complain about.
Do you remember the story of the Lord Jesus feeding five thousand men with five loaves of bread? I see a big contrast in the story. When the disciples received those same loaves of bread, their first reaction was to complain, but when the Lord received them He immediately gave thanks. And how did the story end? The Lord thanked God, and He receive an increase (See John 6:5-11). Being thankful leads to victory over discouragement.
3. Faith:
Without faith, a man cannot receive anything from God (See James 1:6-7). We will surely see and walk into better days when we keep faith alive. Don’t let the present gloom or bad days crush your faith and hope of a better day. The man that was sick by the pool of Bethesda kept hope alive for 38 years. Not even 38 years of pain and infirmity could crush his hope (See John 5:1-9). The word says if you have faith even as a mustard seed, you can speak to move mountains (See 17:20). Faith is a mighty force.
4. Prayer and Fasting:
For the purpose of this devotion, allow me to put the last two points together. Remember that while you hope for better days, you cannot overlook the need to pray and fast.
Certain things will not leave except by prayer and fasting.
In that same way, there are certain spiritual keys that will never be outdated, not by time nor season nor dispensations. They remain important spiritual exercises that yield great fruits.
One of such things is prayer and fasting. If you can advance and break through barriers that stopped you in the last season of your life, then you must engage the force of prayer and fasting. There are certain things that will never leave you except by the force of prayer and fasting.
Fasting is abstaining from food for a time or season. In Matthew 15:32 we learn that then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
The benefits of prayer and fasting is unmatched. It’s the spiritual key to dealing with certain difficulties and impossibilities. The barriers that stopped you from fulfilling your dreams in the last seasons of your life would not give way in your next season just like that except by prayer and fasting. This December as we embark on our annual season of intentionally battling spiritual barriers, I exhort you to arise and put on your gear of warfare to pull down all satanic barriers in Jesus’ name!
From the 1st to the 21st day in December, join our team of intercessors as we lift up battling rams of prayer against every demonic shield and resistance.
Anything that kept you away from your healing, liberation, prosperity or your ability to take the city for Christ, must give way by prayer and fasting.
Under the New Testament, the simple steps to effective prayer and fasting are;
- Have a clear purpose for the fasting
- Start your day with a Quiet Time
- Bath and anoint yourself with oil
- Focus your thoughts on God through prayer, Word study, meditation and listening to preaching
- Loose the bands of wickedness, and do good
- End the fast with prayer and breaking of bread
- Continue again until you receive the answers or have a release in your spirit.
Today’s Prayer
