I’m excited about today’s message on how to watch and pray, and what to even watch for. So let’s start by taking a look at this Scripture from the Book of Matthew;
[Matthew 26:41 KJV] “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
This is one of the most important instruction that the Master gave us as His disciples. He wants us to watch and pray! There are so many things He could have said and one of the key things He said is that we should watch and pray. This is a great secret to success and we cannot downplay it.
To watch and pray is to be vigilant and observant while you pray: Prayer does not replace the need for planning and organising. We must be vigilant while we keep the wheel of prayer effectively rolling.
Why you should watch and pray
3 simple reasons why you should watch and pray is so that;
- You don’t enter into temptation. The road is rough and weary, the road is not clear, you must watch your way well.
[Matthew 26:31 KJV] “Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.”
- You don’t get surprised. Not being vigilant will lead to surprises. Watch and pray!
[Mark 13:33 KJV] “Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.”
- You can make the right move or the right next great move.
7 Things to watch for
The following are 7 things you must watch for,
- Watch for both patterns and odds.
- Watch for signs; The prophet Elijah sent his servant to go check for clouds. When you pray, pause and check; but keep praying until the answer comes.
- Watch for attitudes; Listen, people treat you exactly how they feel about you. Don’t overlook obvious signs in people’s attitudes.
- Watch for vision (watch to see); God is speaking and He still speaks, if you care to hear, He will reveal Himself to you. Habakkuk stood upon his watch to see.
- Watch for the next great move; You don’t have the ability to create the wave but you can surf on one when it is created. The woman with the issue of blood could not bring Jesus Christ her way, but she was smart to move when the Lord came by.
- Watch for evil; I don’t mean being superstitious but you must navigate life with care. People and things are not always what they seem.
- Watch to know the state of your flock or business; Check vital statistics; your BP, blood sugar level, etc.
