Luke 15:14 KJV — “And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. [17] And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!”
[18] “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, [19] and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. [20] And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”
It doesn’t matter where you are in life, because life is always about the next moves. Your next move matters and I will exhort you to watch your next moves.
A certain man according to the Bible had two sons; at a point in life the younger son as a result of a bad move, was struggling with life away from home; and his older brother was home serving! Then one day the younger son made a choice to go home and serve; just that day the older son made a decisions to stay out of the home. The difference was not where they started but the next move they took. (Read also 15:11-32, Philippians 3:15 onwards)
What next move are you contemplating? Watch your steps. Don’t trip, don’t fall.
The older one thought he was doing his father a favour by serving him; the younger one had come to know that serving was a privilledge.
Here are simple moves to make:
- If you are making progress in the right direction, then mind the same things and the same rules by which you have gotten this far.
- Align and fellowship with those who have us for an example. The us is in the context of those who you have looked up to as fathers and instructors.
- If you are not making progress, or advancing but in the wrong direction; then it’s time to ask questions and return to the place where you made progress in the godly direction. If you hear my voice harden not your heart.
What is your next move? Watch your steps. A sense of entitlement will not make you content and grateful; but a heart of gratitude will make easy to please you.
