[Luke 10:30-37 KJV] “And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise”.
We have been called to be seperated from this untoward generation, to reach out to others, and to find a way to raise other to be like us. You must therefore always remember that life is like shuttling between Jerusalem and Jericho; sometimes you get to go uphill but at other times you go downhill.
Now going downhill is not always bad, as long as it is not a free fall but a descent. There are times when we have to condescend to men of low estate before we can rise to sit with princes at the top.
We can not just run with our purpose without pausing to attend to the needs of the vulnerable and hurting in society. Each of us must set a target to reach out as far as is possible to others that may have been attacked in the journey of life.
There are times when people set out to find love and company but rather they get broken hearted. We cannot blame them, we must be there to help and not to take advantage of them.
There are times when people step out to trade and get heavily indebted; we must be willing to step in to give them a bail out. Life is not just full of strong and intelligent people but also vulnerable and weak people.
The priest may not be able to help; the Levite may not be able to help but you can. Don’t turn a blind eye. Step in and offer your help. You may be the only neighbour coming that way, using that route, please help.
Enough of the blame game, do what you can to save the situation. Our Lord Jesus Christ just gave a simple solution; He said “go and do likewise”. You can go and do as the Samaritan did. Today someone is down, tomorrow it could be anyone else. Arise and be a voice for the voiceless; be eyes to the blind; and legs to the lame. Do the little you can to save the situation.
