What if Delilah could Speak?

It is better not to judge a person based on the choices they’ve made, when you don’t know the options that were available to them as they made those decisions.

Discussion

In my meditation, I came to understand that Delilah may not be an evil person, but obviously she was not loyal and honest.

What if Delilah could speak from the grave. You would understand her better.

It is important to understand that the circumstances and reality surrounding the dating relationship between Samson and Delilah made it easy for Delilah to betray Samson.

In the first place there was no way Samson could marry Delilah, his godly culture, practices, and norms would not permit it. God had instructed His people not to marry from foreign nations. So there was a great chance that that relationship will never end in marriage, and Delilah knew this.

In the second place, the Philistines themselves will not allow him to marry her, because he had troubled them in times past. Remember that they did not allow him to marry his first fiancee.

In the third place Samson seemed to me to be a psychopath. He was erratic, causing confusion. Who will marry a man who broke his father-in-law’s gate and carried it away to dump on a mountain. Who will marry a man who killed 100 men from her hometown just to pay for a bet.

Considering all this, Delilah thought it was better to trade this relationship that is going no where for money, influence, and audience with the Lords of Philistine.

As you walk through life, remember that many of the people relating with you will betray you when someone makes them a better offer. Many people are in life just looking for something, they are not committed. They will shift camps when they find someone else who promises a better deal. You must be cautious.

Delilah had good reasons, just that her good reasons were the red flags for Samson.

I pray that you shall not ignore the red flags, and may you not commit too much to a relationship that died even before it started.
