In the text below, the Lord told a parable that explains why many efforts fail and how to fix it. We want to understand why you seem to put in so much effort but we get very little returns.
[Luke 14:15-24 KJV] “And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.”
“And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came, and shewed his Lord these things.”
“Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.“
In evangelism, just as marketing and sale; you will not succeed when you are trying to reach a generation that is not interested in what you are trying to present.
When the members or attendees of a church are not interested in the message and the food served; they will leave you the pastor drained. This is why many of you are failing in missions. You are sent to a people and there is every need to find your community and try to reach them!
Many efforts fail because you are chasing people who don’t desperately need what you have to offer.

The Bible says a man made a feast and sent his servants to go bring those he had invited and all three gave excuse.
- One said he had bought a land and needed to go see it
- The second had bought 5 yokes of oxen, he needed to prove
- The third said he had married a wife and can’t come.
What is common among all three is that they were at a good place. Why should you be inviting people who don’t desperately need what you have to offer. These people had bought lands, yokes of oxen, and married wives; what do they need food for. If you chase people who don’t need what you have to offer, you will lose steam and drive. You will feel irrelevant and insecure.
Focus on those who need what you have to offer. Go 2 steps down the social ladder and you will begin to make impact. People will follow what is head of them, and not at par with them. It’s either you move 3 steps up the social ladder to be able to reach those at your former level; or go 2 steps down to reach them.
When they reported to the Lord that they had gone to the streets and lanes; now he asked them to go to the highways and hedges. Until you stop pursuing those who don’t need what you offer; you will lose confidence in you. If my wisdom and truth is not what you seek, I have to keep chasing you around. Life is already difficult, I won’t complicate mine!
Stay blessed
