What is praying in the spirit, and why is it so important?
Praying is communicating with God, and praying in the spirit is communicating with God at a level or realm where your understanding is unfruitful. It is connecting with divinity with your spirit and not with your intellect. God, we know is far bigger than any human intellect can comprehend and connect with.
[1 Corinthians 14:14-15 KJV] “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”
Praying in the spirit is so important because it helps you to;
- Pray for long hours; This is because when you pray in the spirit, it’s your spirit that prays, your intellect is disengaged. This helps you to pray for long hours if you so wish.
- Pray about mysterious things to God; The Bible reveals this in 1 Corinthians 14; praying in the spirit takes you to a higher realm of communication that allows you to supernaturally both know and speak about deeper mysteries.
- Build and edify yourself; Praying in the spirit enables you to pray in a higher realm that builds up your spirit man. It makes you stronger and spiritually sharp.
- Pray with groaning, diction and syllable that words cannot utter; (See Romans 8:26). God knows that sometimes, we are unable to pray as we ought to; He has, therefore, assigned the Holy Spirit to help our infirmities and to intercede for us with groaning and cries that cannot be uttered.
- Double task; You can pray while engaged in other activities. When you pray in the spirit, you are able to double task because your understanding is unfruitful. Your spirit is engaged and you intellect is fallow. You don’t need to think of what to say; you say what the spirit enables you to utter.
- Pray everywhere; When you engage the spirit in prayer, every space is private; because no man understands you. You speak in a heavenly language that only God and those gifted to understand do.
I want to exhort the church to pray more in the spirit and see what the Lord will do.
Stay blessed
