“And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer–sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it. And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my Lord the king, are they not all my Lord’s servants? why then doth my Lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was abominable to Joab. And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.” (1 Chronicles 21:1-8 KJV)
There are certain major gates of hell that try to prevail against the church and the Christian fraternity. These are spirits that try to keep us from advancing and fully manifesting our God-given potential. One of such spirits is the spirit of provocation and vexation.
These are spirits which dare you, challenge your faith, and try to withstand you. The Bible tells us that Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to number Israel against the word of God. We see the same spirit provoking our Lord Jesus Christ in the wilderness. The same spirit attacked Moses and he broke the tablets of the commandments, he hit the rock with his rod for water, instead of speaking to it in the wilderness.
These satanic powers try to get you to tempt God, make you throw away godly reasoning and make you stubborn and not easily entreated. (James 3:15-18)
Many families and generations have been destroyed and hindered by this spirit. You can save your family from this mess. You can withstand the devil and soar above these evil powers.
Accept and keep the word of God as the greatest wisdom for life:
All the king was supposed to do was to keep the word of God and obey. The word of God is wisdom and those who keep it have the fountain of life.
Don’t despise the wisdom and experience of the guide of your youth:
Sometimes there are things that you can be guided into and saved from. It pays to listen and it’s important to listen. The words of your father watch over you when you sleep.
Don’t always let your power prevail:
Sometimes allow wisdom to prevail. David was powerful but Joab was wiser. David was the king but Joab was a veteran warrior who had worked with King Saul in governance and battle.
I may be powerful but wisdom must prevail. We must learn to listen; “but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).
Stay blessed; I love you!
