[1 Timothy 1:18-20 KJV] “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme”.
We know that every man stands in the middle of an epic battle that is raging on in these last days. The Apostle Paul is therefore charging all of us to war a good warfare according to the prophecies which have been spoken over our lives.
There is a real battle that is raging on and real enmies fighting in it. We are caught in this jungle called life, and we must fight and win. Each one of us needs victory over the powers of darkness and the enemies that are against us.
Below are five simple things you need to know about this battle;
- The battle is spiritual
- The battle is cosmic
- The battle is tactical
- The battle is fierce
- The battle is brutal
In this study, we shall be studying the nature of the battle. You must strive hard and not relent on your oars.
The battle is spiritual:
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 teaches that though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. The battle is spiritual and must be fought with spiritual weapons. Ephesians 6:12 clearly states that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places. We are in the middle of a battle that is spiritual.
It is not only spiritual but cosmic:
It is being fought on every lattitude and longitude. We are at war with entities that are interterrestrial and intergalatic. In Daniel 9:11-13;20, we understand that the forces that fight and hinder the answers to our prayers are in space, on earth, in humans and everywhere. The angel Michael mentioned the Prince of Persia and the Prince of Medes; these are interspatial entities.
This battle is tactical:
The enemy that is up against us is not a haphazard fighter, the enemy is tactical. He has cons and devices and wiles. 2 Corinthians 2:11 tells us not to be ignorant of his devices. He engages very sophisticated weapons in war. You cannot win on an ignorant head. Isaiah 5:13-14 clearly states that many of God’s people have gone into captivity for lack of knowledge.
The battle is fierce:
Revelation 12:12 reveals that the devil has great wrath, and is fighting fiercely. You must also resist him fiercely in the faith.
Finally remember the battle is brutal:
The enemy is not playing games. 1 Peter 5:8 teaches that he seeks whom he may devour. John 10:9-10 states that he comes only to steal, to kill and to destroy. We must not treat his advances lightly at all.
May the Lord defend you against every satanic attack! May the name of the Lord become your high tower and defence! May the Lord enlighten your understanding to withstand, and fight, and win the battle against darkness, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!
