Scripture Reading
Mark 9:17–29 KJV
And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Exhortation
There are many times in which we or people close to us pursue self-destructive habits and tendencies to our surprise. For instance, I have done some things in the past which I knew very well that they would not help me, and yet I did them anyway. Later in the years I came to understand I was bit by the bug of self-destruction.

In recent times there is an increase in cases of suicide and self-destructive habits; drunkenness, smoking, and indiscriminate sex.
I have met people that gambled a fortune away. I have read the stories of millionaires that gambled with all their wealth and became poor. There is a hidden root that disguises itself as a mental health challenge.
There are demons that make people lose hope and passion for living. There are demons that make people lose self-worth, and make people think that it is better to die than to live.
Many people have trust issues because they fear betrayal, they fear rejection and abandonment. There are people who are so possessive because they fear losing those they love.

So then how do we help people who are bitten by this bug of self-destruction?
1.Help the victim get professional help:
The man brought his son to the greatest physician, Jesus Christ.
2. Those around them should gain understanding and be compassionate:
We should be there for one another. Parents, take better interest in their children.
3. Teach your children to live by faith:
The early fathers were people of faith. When Abraham came to a dead end, he hoped against hope. He counted on the faithfulness of God; our God is faithful.
4. Encourage fasting and prayers:
Fasting and prayer has a way of soothing pain. Please I am not suggesting starving people in the name of healing. I am rather suggesting a life of devotion; when you decide to spend a day or two reaching out to God. A life of devotion breaks the spirit of discouragement.
May the Lord help you to understand that no situation is a dead end. Every situation can be sorted out. Don’t kill yourself over any situation. God is able to bring you out of every horrible pit and set your feet upon a rock to stay. God will put a new song in your mouth; it is a song of victory.
Stay blessed, I love you!

Teaching and preaching faith to our children is the very key.

Yes indeed the bug of Self-Destruction. I remembered how I used to fear strongly of losing those that I love . I held on strongly that that when even I know that this will lead no where I still do hold. I suffer the fear of rejection and abandonment for a very long time until I met the Bishop of the HighCity Church who preached to me and showed me love and accepted me for who I am as well. he gave me the needed attention and blinded it with the word of God by preaching faith to me and teaching me how to live by faith on daily basis, above all the presiding Bishop of the HighCity gave one important key to keep me living and hoping and that key is simple and that is the key to Pray daily and through that I can boldly tell you today that am long over due the Fear of losing people I love and also rejection from people.
Thank you Paapa for the love and care you’ve always shown me and God bless you for the beautiful timeless sermons that you give the HighCity daily.
God Bless You Paapa and continue to make you Great
