Sometimes life can be challenging. There are many times in which life suddenly, out of the blue, dishes out a threat to you. Like Peter and John, we may be going about our assignment in peace, then suddenly life issues a threat.

Scripture Reading

Acts 4:21 KJV

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

Exhortation

Some people get up from bed and rush off to work. “Honey, I’m off to work, see you in the evening” they would say; only to come back home with fired from work, or with court sermons, or even paralysed with a stroke, etc. So what do you do when life dishes out threat?

What do you do when you wake up sick? What do you do when you are find yourself carry in your hands a doctor’s report that you never dreamt of? What do you do when life threatens the survival of the very things you do for a living?

Peter and John went to work one day, everything was normal until the elders issued an injunction that bars them from operating in the name of Jesus Christ. What did they do? What can we learn from them?

Acts chapter 4 gives us what to do when life issues a threat to you;

  1. Be determined to obey God no matter what!

Speak the word only as a defence: Peter and answered back with the Word filled with the Holy ghost.

Acts 4:17–21 KJV

But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

  1. Return to your own company:

When life issues a threat, the first things to do is return to your own company. Go back to your pastor and church family. You pastor is your shepherd and day guide; your church is your home; so come back home.

Acts 4:23 KJV

And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

3. Report the whole matter to the pastor or brethren:

Tell the full story, don’t leave useful details out. Report the whole matter. Say nothing but the truth. Peter and John reported the whole matter to the brethren, do the same.

Acts 4:23 KJV

And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all …

4. Lift up your voice in prayer to God:

The brethren lifted up their voices in prayer.

Acts 4:31 KJV

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together…

When life issues a threat to you lift up you voice in prayer, pray fervently about the threat. King Hezekiah spread the letter from Syria before the Lord and cried out (See 2 Kings 19). Child, Don’t give up easily. Arise and pray; prayer is the only way to survive threats.

5. Wait for the shaking by God:

Acts 4:31 KJV

… the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, …

After they had prayed wait until the Holy Spirit has finished working on you.

 6. Step out and carry on with business:

The test of life cannot stop your destiny. After they had prayed and the place was shaken, they received power to preach in the name of Jesus Christ again. When we pray and wait for God we become empowered.

The threats of life shall not stop your destiny in Jesus’ name!

I love you, stay blessed

Powerful! I have learnt great things today.
Before calamity strikes I should have God whom I relate to through prayer, a church I belong to and call my company, and a pastor I loyally submit to and honour. I need not be idle. There should be something I do for a living.
    Just thinking aloud.
God bless you, Bishop. You are diligently shepherding me to a place of peace and abundance.

I met him 7 years ago in the late hours of 2010 and I tell my life is never being the same again and my life have far advanced in life than it would have if I did not meet him. Thank you Jesus for changing my life through this powerful but humble servant of Yours. Paapa I pray for the grace to be a son and one that you can send to go out there and preach and carry out no other agenda but yours only according to the will of God Amen. All who knew me before I met Bishop are always shocked and surprised at the change and transformation though am still battling some others threats but I know the Lord has done it already through my Bishop of the HighCity Church, Bishop Noah Simpe. I have learnt to tarry for the Holy Spirit empowerment, before I step out into the world. In such an atmosphere, I will always win, even when calamity strikes.
However, to really win out there, I need to commune daily with the Holy Spirit, connect daily with my company, and report to my shepherd whenever I encounter any issues that threaten my ability to function as appointed.

Thank you pastor for sharing this insight.
