(Luke 12:42-48 KJV) “And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his Lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. But if that servant say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The Lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
And that servant, which knew his Lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”
The fifth step into God’s perfect plan is stewardship. We are called to be stewards in the household of God. We are called and graced to serve the household with the blessing and grace which we have received.
Very early in life, I understood that I am only a steward of the manifold blessings of God in my life. We are stewards of our time, money, opportunities, strength, and our very life. We must refuse to think of ourselves as owning anything, but rather as stewards over the heritage of God.
The money you make is not yours; you are only a steward of the blessing. You are a steward of your time, strength, and life. We must give ourselves to serve and give. Giving and serving must become a lifestyle.
There are four things that will help you become a good steward;
1. Knowing the will of the Lord:
A steward is a delegate; you are not of yourself but representing the will of your Lord. A good steward seeks to know and to do the will of the Lord. You will not miss the will of the Lord. May the Lord reveal and show you His will. You will walk in that will and not miss it.
2. Preparation:
It is not enough to know the will of God but you must prepare yourself to fulfill it. Preparation leads to effectiveness. Every one of us must endeavour to prepare for what we are called to do. Let him that is called to serve wait on the serving; those called to teach and exhort on their teaching and exhorting. We must all prepare for maximum impact.
3. Wisdom:
A good steward is wise enough to know how to do what he was prepared to do. Stewardship requires wisdom. You will need a good strategy to carry out the will of the Lord. From today I pray that you receive wisdom in the name of Jesus Christ.
4. Faithfulness:
It is not enough to know what is required of you, nor to prepare or to know how to go about it, but you must be found faithfully doing it at whatever hour the master shall come. Those who do eye service (serving well only when their master is present) are not good stewards. A steward will be faithful at all times and everywhere.
May we become good stewards. May the Lord find us faithful. May we never miss our time. Whether serving in the morning, at noon, or at midnight, may we be found to be faithful. Receive the grace to be a good steward. May your faithfulness draw favour towards you. Stay blessed and stay faithful.
