“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” (Luke 21:33-36 KJV)
I have a message for you! Whether you believe or doubt, live or die, listen or ignore my words, this world is passing away, and will soon crash! Now you may be asking the following questions;
- How do I know
- When will it happen
- How will it happen
- What can we do about it
2 Peter 3 is an exposè on this theme, and see the Apostle expounding on this all important subject.
2 Peter 3:5-7 reminds us of the fact that the same word that predicted the destruction of the earth by floods in the days of Noah, has declared that this present world, including the heavens and the earth has been reserved against the day of Judgement and perdition of ungodly men. The SAME WORD that predicted doom in the days of Noah, has predicted doom for this one also.
2 Peter 3:10 teaches that the day of the Lord is as a thief in the night, sudden and unpredictable as in the night. It’s silly to try to predict and look for timelines; please we can only look for signs of the times but not chronological events. The day of the Lord is as a man in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 teaches that the heavens will pass away with great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat; the earth also and the works thereof shall burn up. The earth and the things we have put in it shall melt with fervent heat. Get ready!
The Lord admonishes us to watch and pray. He teaches that only prayer and watchfulness can save us from every snare of the times. This is the time to pray and to watch. We cannot play games anymore. The end of all things is at hand.
Indeed, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ admonished us to watch and pray; lest the day overtake us.
