“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:7-8 KJV)
The end of all things is at hand; we need to be sober and watch unto prayer.
Remember that ‘Noah looked like an idiot until it started raining.’ I may look like an idiot until the heavens begin to roll away like a mat and the earth melt with fervent heat.
Today, I shall be discussing deadly intoxicants that keep many from being sober and effective. These are the things that make many drunk. I pray that the light of the gospel shall neutralize their effect and potency over our lives. Many children of God fail because they drink deep from the goblets to serve these intoxicants.
Its time to;
- Think clearly
- Keep life simple
- Don’t believe in vanity
- Avoid the ungodly, sinners and the scornful
- Beware of these intoxicants
Many are drunk with;
1. Wine:
The first and well known intoxicant is wine. The Bible warns us to stay away from wine. Ephesian 5:18 teaches us not to be drunk with wine wherein is excess. We should rather be filled with the Holy Spirit. I pray that we will come under the influence of the Holy Spirit. May we be spirit controlled. May you be filled with the Holy ghost!
2. The wine of the fornication of the mistress of witches:
Revelation 17:2 (Revelation 18:3) reveals that fornication can be very intoxicating. Many in the church today cannot obey God; they cannot even think clearly because they are intoxicated by the wine of fornication. Many young people will miss heaven because they are drunk from the wine of fornication.
3. The spirit of perversion:
Perversion is a spirit and it intoxicates as wine. Perversion is as wine; it could make anyone drunk and they will cast off sound judgement. Isaiah 19:14 teaches that the Lord could pour the spirit of perversion upon the stiff-necked, that they may err in every work, until they repent and humble themselves. Many hardened sinners are drunk with the spirit of perversion. I pray that the Lord would deliver you from this curse.
4. Blood, the blood of saints they have shed:
The third intoxicant is blood. When men begin to conquer and shed blood, they become drunk with the many blood they shed. Most oppressors grow arrogant through the many bloodshed. Isaiah 49:26 reveals that the oppressor could be drunk with the blood of innocent saints he sheds until God feeds him with his own blood. (Revelations 17:6) Many times in excitement, he continues in shedding the blood of the innocent until he begins to drink his own blood.
5. The spirit of deep sleep:
Deep sleep is an intoxicant. Many are spiritually and figuratively drunk with sleep. In Isaiah 29:9 the Lord revealed that he would pour the spirit of deep sleep upon the nations.
6. Bitterness and wormwood:
The next intoxicant that we must all stay away from is bitterness and pain. Lamentations 3:15 reveal that people can be drunk with bitterness and pain. Most often people in pain don’t think well, bitter people think and act foolishly. Consider Judas Iscariot, Absalom, and Cain. The end of all things is at hand, let us be careful with the roots of bitterness. The roots of bitterness defiles and can defile many. Many are drunk with the wine of bitterness and wormwood.
7. Poverty and the desire to be rich:
The next deadly intoxicant I want to discuss is poverty and abundance (Proverbs 30:7-9). Inasmuch as most poor people don’t think well, rich and indulgent people don’t think well either. This is the reason why many poor people make foolish decisions, and many rich people make arrogant decisions. Those who want to be rich throw away sound judgement. They are most often so drunk with riches and arrogance that they cannot be helped.
8. Signs and miracles and spectacle:
Nothing intoxicates and dazzles like signs, miracles and spectacles (spectacular manifestations). The only safe way to relate with signs and miracles and spectacle is to develop your own faith; so that signs would follow you. If you go around seeking miracles, you will be deceived. Signs must follow you; you must follow the word. Whenever you come to the presence of God, seek the word and not a sign or spectacle or miracle.
Again, Noah looked like an idiot until it starting raining. History is repeating itself today. I may look like an idiot as I preach to you this message, but it will surely rain fire and brimstone one day. You must trust Jesus Christ to pay for your sin, baptise you with the Holy Spirit, and heal you of every infirmity and backsliding today
