One of the key graces you need to abound in is the grace to speak right. It is the second of the six-fold grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: the grace of faith, utterance, knowledge, diligence, love, and giving (See 2 Corinthians 8:1-8)
[James 3:2 KJV] “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body”.
This is because;
- A soft answer turns away wrath
- The tongue of the wise uses knowledge right
- A wholesome tongue is the tree of life
[Proverbs 15:1-4 KJV] “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit”.
The simple secrets to speaking right are:
Be filled with the Holy Spirit for utterance:
In Acts 2:1-4, when the Holy Ghost came upon the people and filled them, they began to speak as the Spirit gave them utterance. The Holy Spirit enables us to speak right. When we speak in the right way, the tree of life will be planted in our lives.
Put away childish things:
Children speak as children because they understand as children and think like children ( See 1 Corinthians 13:11). How you speak is not likely to change until you have changed what you listen to, how you think and how you understand issues.
Guard your heart with diligence:
This is because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” [Luke 6:45 KJV].
Know how to answer every man by grace and wisdom:
Indeed in speaking right, remember the proverb ‘different strokes for different folk’. Answer every man according to who he is. “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” [Colossians 4:6 KJV]
Let the law of kindness be in your tongue:
The Bible tells us that “the virtuous woman opens her mouth in wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness“ [Proverbs 31:26]
May you be able to bridle your tongue and speak only when you must, to speak what you ought to, and to speak only to those who must hear you. Receive wisdom to speak and to speak right.
Stay blessed, I love you!
