[1 Timothy 5:14 KJV] “I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully”.
Now concerning the things you wrote to me, after the meeting you had, this is what I have to share. Every younger woman in the church, a woman below 60 years, should do the following;
- Marry
- Bear children
- Guide the house
- Give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
From the text it is clear that until you give the adversary the occasion, he cannot speak reproachfully. Remember that how a woman is treated is determined by how she carries herself. It is not about whether she is married or single or a single parent. If you want to command respect and honour, don’t be desperate to seek a cheap life or an easy way out in life.
Our role model from Scripture is Ruth. Many of us can identify with her.
- She was from a marginalised and stigmatised background, a Moabitess
- She was not a virgin; She had been in a relationship, she was actually a widow.
- She was an under-dog and poor; homeless and scratching for sustenance.
- She was an immigrant.
Many of us have more going for us than Ruth, so if God could turn her life around, then God can turn ours around too.
1. Don’t live for marriage, for approval or for benefits:
Orpah returned because she had selfish interest for following Naomi. She wanted an easy way out, so when she realised that following Naomi was not an easy way out, she left.
2. Live with a purpose:
Ruth connected and followed Naomi with a purpose greater than just marrying and bearing children.
3. Be open to meet and marry your true love:
Unlike Orpah, Ruth was not living a life desperate to get married and bear children; but she was open to meet, fall in love, and marry. She did not hesitate to marry Boaz. Don’t date, don’t cohabit, marry.
4. Get good counsel:
Take counsel from people who have a past with you. If one does not know where you are coming from, how can they counsel you on where you are going? Ruth sought counsel from Naomi.
5. Don’t live in guilt:
Don’t get stuck in the past. We all make mistakes in our growing up years. Don’t let your mistakes tie you down and get stuck in the past.
6. Work on your marriage:
Work on your marriage if you have one. All working marriages are worked on.
7. Don’t forget to pray, fellowship, reach out, and walk by the way, the truth and the life.
These are the seven keys to living a life of honour and dignity.
