[2 Corinthians 6:14-18 KJV] “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? [15] And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? [16] And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. [17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ; and I will receive you, [18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty”.
The Bible tells us very clearly that there is no way a Christian can be equally yoked with an unbeliever. “Two can never walk together except they are made compatible” (Amos 3:3)
I have never seen light walking with darkness; light drives darkness away. Any one of us who is able to date, partner, walk or associate equally with an unbeliever is not a believer. It is impossible to be equally yoked with an unbeliever. This is a fact and true, and no doubt about that; even if they are your family members.
Now, the word of God is telling us that any relationship with the unbeliever is an unequal yoke; it is not an equal yoke. Any relationship with the unbeliever will affect your walk with God, so don’t do it. Do not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever.
Why is it important to avoid an unequal yoke with unbelievers? You must avoid being unequally yoked with an unbeliever for the following reasons;
1. The wrath of God is reserved against unbelievers:
To decide to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever is to decide to come under the wrath of God. Those who lived in Sodom and Gomorrah perished with those who sinned there.
[Romans 1:18-21 KJV] “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; [19] Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. [20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: [21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened”.
2. They have become vain in their imagination and their foolish hearts are darkened:
Although they think they are wise, they are rather foolish and have become perverted. They change the glory of the Eternal God to the glory of a beast. They rather bow to beasts then to worship God. The same person who feels big to bow in worship on a treated floor, kneel before stones in the bush. That is how silly an unbeliever is.
[Romans 1:21-23 KJV] “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. [22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, [23] And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things”.
3. God has given them over to uncleanness through the lust of their own hearts to dishonor their bodies among themselves:
These sort of people have become so foolish that they claim you cannot say I am a woman just because I have a vagina. Wow! Gender have now become an issue to be discussed? What? How?
[Romans 1:24-25 KJV] “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: [25] Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen”.
4. God has given all unbelievers over to vile affections:
They desire inconvenient things. They have feelings for ackward things. They work things that are contrary to nature. May the Lord deliver them in Jesus name!
[Romans 1:26-27 KJV] “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: [27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet”.
5. All unbelievers are reprobate in their minds:
Most unbelievers have the minds of animals or beast. They are filled with all form of unrighteousness. They don’t just do it but they hail those who do it.
[Romans 1:28-32 KJV] “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; [29] Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, [30] Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, [31] Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: [32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them”.
Beloved, we are not talking about the unchurched, we are talking about unbelievers. This includes even those who come to church and don’t believe what the pulpit preaches. An unbeliever is an unbeliever even if he comes to church. Beware and don’t be unequally yoked together with them. Be blessed;
I love you!
