Prayer is the second step to winning the lost and fulfilling the great commission of the Lord after you have answered the call. You must pray the following crucial prayers;
1. Pray that the Lord should choose you and prepare you for His use;
You must pray that God will count you worthy, and use you mightily for His glory. The Bible says many are called but only a few are chosen. I pray that we will be part of the few who are chosen. May the Lord see you as one of His choice servants. May the Lord take you far.
[Matthew 22:14 KJV] “For many are called, but few are chosen”.
[1 Timothy 1:12 KJV] “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;”
It’s important to remember that there are certain things God will not allow you to do, until He counts you worthy. God did not allow David to build the temple because he had blood on his hands; John the Baptist recounted how he was not worthy to unloose the lachet of Jesus’ shoes.
Sometimes, even when you are suffering, thank God, because you have been counted worthy to suffer for the kingdom.
[Acts 5:41 KJV] “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name”.
[2 Thessalonians 1:3-5 KJV] “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:”
2. Pray that the Lord shall endue you with power:
To recieve the power can transform you into a witness for the Lord, you need the Holy Spirit (See Acts 1:8). We know that the Lord could not have done any mighty works if God was not with Him. “God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power and He went about doing good”. We must pray for the anointing of the Spirit and power.
3. Pray for all men and for those who are in authority:
We must first of all pray for all men and for those in authority, that we would be able to live a peaceful life. It is important to pray for all men and those who have authority over them.
4. Pray that God will send more labourers into His harvest fields:
The harvest is plenteous but the labourers are few. We must pray that the Lord of the harvest will send more laborers.
5. Pray that the word of God shall have its free course:
Pray that the word of God will have its free course with others just like it has had in us.
6. Pray that we shall be delivered from wicked and unreasonable men:
Wickedness is real, and there are a lot of unreasonable men around. The Lord wants you to go to the ends of the world, these journeys may be dangerous and perilous because of wickedness. We, therefore, need protection.
[2 Thessalonians 3:1-3 KJV] “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil”.
7. Pray that God shall give you utterance:
You need the door of utterance to open unto you. A lame message cannot make a convert. There is the need for an opened door of utterance.
So by this teaching, we know that prayer is an important part of evengelism. It is the first step to effective evangelism.
