I want to exhort you today on the need to get wisdom for seasons of transition.

[Genesis 8:1-12] “And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; [2]  The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; [3]  And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. [4]  And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. [5]  And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen”.

[6]  “And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: [7]  And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth”.

[8]  “Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; [9]  But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. [10]  And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; [11]  And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. [12]  And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more”.

Life flows in seasons; in fact, our God is a God of seasons and times. We transition from morning to noon and noon to evening. There are times when you are in the night seasons, but you surely transition into the morning seasons.

Many of us make mistakes in the seasons of transition. Many of us make mistakes when transitioning from one state to the other. Some fail when they are transitioning into teenage, or into adulthood, or from singlehood into marriage. There is, therefore, the need to get wisdom for smooth transitions.

For those of us who live in Africa, we understand the importance of transitions in our governance after elections. We have witnessed the tension in nations after elections and when a new government is to take over. The wisdom to transition is key to success. We all know that the road to recovery and transition after surgery is the most important.

So, what wisdom do you need to continue in life after a storm? After you have escaped a storm by grace? What wisdom do you need to start life all over again?

The wisdom of patience:

After every storm, it takes time for the waters to abate. You need a lot of patience and wisdom to transition from one stage of life to another. When you leave one relationship, be careful how you enter another. A most important part of life is how you are able to move from one level to the other. Even after the flood, Noah had to wait for close to six months.

The wisdom of testing the waters:

Don’t just open the doors, start by opening the window. Noah opened a window even after the waters abated first. He did not start by opening a door. The second and most important wisdom is to open your windows first and not your doors.

The wisdom of sending the ravens to test for death and rot:

Noah sent a raven to test for death and rot. Ravens are dirty animals and very disloyal. When we started planting churches and sending missionaries out, some of them became like ravens, you send them out and you lose them, but it is wisdom to test for rot and death. Ravens feed on dead things and that tells you that there is death and rot out there. Sometimes, before you trust someone, let them pass the integrity test. Don’t just put both legs onto the water. Noah knew that the carcasses will sink if there is still more water, but if the waters have abated, the raven will find food.

The wisdom of sending doves to test for new life:

Doves are a symbol of wisdom and understanding. They are clean, homely, and loyal. Let your new experience pass the loyalty and integrity test. Noah did not complain about the raven that did not return, he waited and sent a dove. Noah knew that ravens are not loyal, he was not too surprised at its behaviour.

The wisdom of the olive leaf:

Olive is a symbol of oil and anointing. When you are transitioning, please follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Whether you are transitioning from singlehood into marriage; from being a student into a graduate; or from being bereaved to being consoled, always remember that every new level will require a new anointing and grace.

I pray that you will find wisdom for transitions. Are you recovering from an ailment? Don’t push yourself too much too quickly. Are you recovering from a storm, step cautiously. Life goes beyond one plus one equals two.

Be blessed, I love you!
