I want to exhort you today on the need to be delivered from “delusion grandeur”. The story of the Tower of Babel is a story of delusion and self-preservation. This is one thing that will help us a lot as we enter into the rest of the Lord.
[Genesis 11:1-9 KJV] “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. [2] And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there”.
[3] “And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. [4] And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth”.
[5] “And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. [6] And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. [7] Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. [8] So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. [9] Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth”.
The people in the East, seeing the advantage they had in terms of language, knowledge, and understanding, decided to build a tower and a city whose top reaches the heavens. They wanted to make a name for themselves and to preserve themselves. They did not want to be scattered abroad. They were taking advantage of what they had to make a name for themselves.
Most often than not many of us are deceived by what we have into making decisions independent of God. Many are fooled by their looks, intelligence, earnings, assets, etc. The people of the east had one language and one mind. They were lured by their given advantages and they tried to manipulate things. They were serving their selfish ego rather than serving the purpose of God with their gift.
Like many of us, they were deluded into thinking that they could build something that will keep them from scattering. I pray that the Lord will deliver us from such selfish and self-centered delusions. I pray that none shall be like Absalom to be trapped by their own hair. Many of the times your given advantages and excessive giftings become your nemesis.
The word ‘nemesis’ is used to describe someone or something that always causes you major problems. Many of us, instead of winning by the many graces and gifts we have, have had them become our nemesis. Many of us are unable to forget who we are even for once. Many end up making bad decisions because of the many advantages we have in life. Sometimes, you find a young woman becoming so proud simply because she is beautiful. She is deceived by her beauty and gets destroyed when it should have helped her.
I pray that as we wait on God, you shall not be deceived and trapped. I pray that each of us can keep life simple. I pray that none of us will be deluded into thinking that we are indispensable or irreplaceable. God is no respecter of persons; He is omnipotent and sovereign; He pulls the strings and the knobs. He can turn the tides anywhere; let us learn to fear Him.
You will not fail when you learn to obey Him. You will excel when you learn to wait for Him in humility. You will excel when you allow Him to rule in your heart. May the Lord deliver us from all grandiose delusions!
Be blessed, I love you!
