I want to speak to you today about breaking generational curses. I like you to know that curses are real and they work against even great destinies. Noah cursed Canaan and it took effect.
[Genesis 9:20-27 KJV] “And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: [21] And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. [22] And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. [23] And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness”.
[24] “And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. [25] And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. [26] And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. [27] God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant”.
We have been studying and praying through the book of Genesis, and one of the wonderful characters we have been studying is Noah.
The Bible tells us that after the flood, Noah began to become a husbandman or a farmer. He planted vine and one day he got drunk and laid naked in his tent. The narrator tells us that his youngest son, Ham, went in to see his father’s nakedness and came out mocking him.
One truth you should never miss is that your father’s nakedness is sacred. His naked body, his wives and concubine and mistresses are all his nakedness. Your father’s nakedness goes beyond his own naked body. You play around it at your own risk. Your father may have made mistakes. Polygamy is a sin, cheating is a sin; your father should have stayed with your mother alone, but as long as your father has had something to do with a woman, that woman is a no-go-area for you. Ham saw his father’s nakedness and shame and mocked. The Bible teaches that when Noah awoke and learned what his son had done, he cursed Canaan, the youngest son of Ham (See Leviticus 18 verses 6 downwards)
The surprising fact is that Canaan did nothing wrong, why should he be the one that should be cursed? This is why we need to pray and purge ourselves of all generational curses. There are times when things just don’t go right in our lives or in our families and we just can’t understand why. When families are plagued with strange sicknesses, failed lives, premature deaths, derailed destinies, poverty, dysfunctional marriages, or stifled lives; it is mostly hard to tell why but things are that way. That is when we have to begin to ask the right questions.
When you read Genesis 10, you will realize that all the cities that were built by Ham and or his descendants are not doing well. Please, you need to take this seriously. Noah cursed Canaan because of what Ham did, and look at the cities of the descendants of Ham in the following account;
[Genesis 10:6-20 KJV] “And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan. [7] And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. [8] And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. [9] He was a mighty hunter before the Lord : wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord . [10] And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. [11] Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, [12] And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city. [13] And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, [14] And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came the Philistines,) and Caphtorim”.
[15] “And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, [16] And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite, [17] And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, [18] And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. [19] And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboiim, even unto Lasha. [20] These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations”.
The interesting truth is that Ham gave birth to many mighty men, yet they have nothing to show. Ham gave birth to Egypt, Lybia, Ethiopia, philistine, sodom, Gomorrah, Sidon, Jebusites, Amorite, Girgashites, etc. Curses are real and as we wait on God, let us cry out for mercy to deal with all curses that may be plaguing us and our generations.
So to effectively deal with such curses:
1. Admit your wrong and repent:
There must be a place of repentance found in you in order for you to merit mercy. The truth still remains that “a curse causeless shall not stand”, but as long as there is a cause the curse stand. It may not take effect immediately, but often it does later.
2. Cry out for mercy and find forgiveness:
You must actually cry out for mercy. You must ask until you are forgiven. The Bible says that when a prince is upset with you, don’t leave his presence till he is appeased. It takes a lot of entreaties to find forgiveness.
[Ecclesiastes 10:4 KJV] “If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences”.
3. Command the curse to be broken:
After you are forgiven, you must now engage in warfare to command the curse to be broken. Curses break only by warfare and great prayer.
4. Contend and cast out demons assigned to enforce the curse:
Finally, remember that when the curse is issued, demons are immediately assigned to enforce it. It is therefore important to deal with any demon behind the manifestation of the curse.
I pray that all generational curses operating in your life shall be broken. I speak as a servant of God to demolish the hold of darkness over any life. You must arise and win. You shall not be like Ham, you will be like Shem, the Lord will bless you. Like Japheth, the Lord will enlarge you. As we wait on the Lord in this season, we shall deal with every root of incest, bloodshed, stealing, lying, and wickedness.
We command every strange sickness in our families to be gone now, in the name of Jesus Christ! We speak to demons that fight marriages to leave now. Maybe the Lord repair the breaches in our families and break all curses in Jesus’ name!
Be blessed, I love you!
