[Mark 16:17-18 KJV] “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; [18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover”.
We enter this new year ignited for the first works. We are ignited and on fire for the doing of the first works. We are motivated and inspired to remember from where we have fallen, repent, and begin to do the first works. (See Revelation 2:5). Many of us are poised and inspired to arise from the dunghill to begin to do the first works.
It is, however, important to inform you that the first works you seek to do will not happen in a vacuum; it happens in the real world and among real people. You are stepping out to do the first works among real people who could perpetrate wickedness and evil. We will work and walk among real people. We must, therefore, understand that there are things out there seeking to harm and stop you. There are real evil things out there that seek to destroy you. What are these things?
These five things seeking to hurt and stop you are:
- Devils and evil spirits
- Words and evil speakings
- Serpents
- Deadly things
- Diseases and sicknesses.
These five things have stopped many people in their tracks than you think. Many people in the new testament have been stopped by devils than by curses; many have been stopped by the mockery and evil speaking of people; many more have been stopped by serpents and things that were projected against them to hurt them; there are many things that stop people. Some people have even been stopped by the food they ate, some have been stopped by diseases and sickness. We must be empowered to stop these things before they stop us.
We have what it takes to win in an evil world. You can overcome and win when we understand that God has given us what it takes to overcome these things. God has given us what it takes:
1. The name of Jesus:
In my name they shall cast out devils; the name of Jesus is that great weapon against devils to cast them out.
2. A new tongue of fire:
God has given everyone one of His children a new tongue to speak life to counter death and shame. We have a tongue that is above every tongue of the enemy, it is a new tongue; a tree of life.
3. Discerning of Spirit:
God has given us the ability to discern real from fake people. I always say that the secret to discriminate between real and fake people is to demand commitment. Fake support always looks real, until you demand commitment. You must be able to discriminate between those sent to help you and those sent to hurt you. Discerning spirits is so important for your safety.
4. Immunity to deadly poison:
None of us can be really sure of what we are served. The Lord knows there are always people who are trying to harm you, He, therefore, stands by us to defend us. The Bible says you may drink deadly poison but it shall not hurt you. God shall be with us always. You will be immune to deadly poison.
5. The laying on of hands:
The Lord has given us the laying on of hands as a weapon to fight sicknesses and diseases. I pray that every one of us shall be free from infirmities. Disease and weaknesses shall not be able to stop you in the name of Jesus Christ. The Lord is with you. As you step out there, remember these things are seeking to harm you.
