[Revelation 11:1-4 KJV] “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. [2] But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. [3] And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. [4] These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth”.
I want to exhort you on understanding how God evaluates a church. This is because many churches have a name that they are alive but are dead and non-existent in the eyes of God. The candlesticks of many churches have been removed from its place spiritually.
It is important for us to understand that God does not see as a man sees. When God looks at a church, He sees and values four key things;
- The temple
- The altar
- The worshippers
- The outreach
We must be committed to build and beautify the house of God. The whole book of Haggai is a call to the people of God to build the house of God. The people said it was not time to build the house of God and God stirred up the prophet Haggai to rebuke them and call them to work. The temple of God must be built and beautified. This is why the angel gave the man a reed to measure the temple.
Then God is interested in the quality and size of the altar in the church. The size of the altar signifies the willingness of the church to make sacrifices. What a church is willing to sacrifice to afford quality worship of God determines the spiritual value of a church. The quality of the altar connotes the spirit in which we work. God wants to find a church where the people are willing and ready to sacrifice in order to offer quality worship to God. May we be a church where people are ready to serve and sacrifice, amen!
The quality and strength of the worshippers determine the power made available in the church. When you find a church where the people are studying the Word, praying, living worthy and decent lives, how do you feel? Who we are as worshippers matters a lot. It determines the potency of the church. A church is the people, the people make the church.
Finally, God measured the outreach of the church. The strength of a church is determined by their sending power and not just the seating power. We must be reaching out with the gospel and charity. God sent two witnesses who prophesied for 1260 days in the city. We must constantly be prophesying and reaching out with the gospel and charity.
I pray that we shall work hard towards increasing our relevance and power as a church in the eyes of God, amen!
Be blessed, I love you!
