[John 2:18-22 KJV] “Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? [19] Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. [20] Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? [21] But he spake of the temple of his body. [22] When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said”.
The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 10:18 that “by much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through”. That is to say that whether lockdown or shut-in, you cannot leave your life to chance. Through idleness, a building will decay. We must all endeavour to build up our lives.
I want to share with you secrets on building up in uncertain times. We shall be drawing our lessons from the life of Jesus Christ, and of Nehemiah as he builds the broken walls, and of Israel moving around the walls of Jericho. In studying Nehemiah 4, 5, 6 you would understand that building up in uncertain times requires the following:
1. Consistent effort and labour directed by wisdom:
Israel brought down the wall of Jericho by faith through moving around the wall once every day for six days, and then seven times on the seventh day. This tells us that we need consistency to get results. You must preserve your house from falling through.
2. Learn to work and build in silence, don’t answer all cut calls;
If you have to stop to answer every dog barking at you, you will not arrive at your destination.
Israel was required to move around Jericho in silence and quietness. You must learn to work and do your business quietly.
Our Lord Jesus Christ did not answer any critic. He focused on His purpose and worked quietly. That was how He ‘built the temple in 3 days’.
There are many people who will get insecure, intimidated, and threatened by your progress and success. When they hear of your advancement and progress, moved by envy and insecurity they will get angry and try to mock you; if their schemes do not work then they will resort to misrepresenting your motives and conspiring with others to set up accusations.
3. Focus on your purpose and re-strategise to fit the times:
Nehemiah re-strategised to fit the times. He re-organised the available resources to meet the demands and needs of the time. You must focus if you can build up in uncertain times.
4. Spend time with things and people that strengthen your convictions and faith:
Everything that happens in uncertain times is orchestrated to weaken your faith and incite fear and anxiety. You must determine not to be weakened in your conviction and faith.
5. Deal ruthlessly with scorners and traitors from within:
A jealousy friend is an enemy, no two ways about that. Don’t allow people who undermine your effort to be around you if you want to build in uncertain times. Proverbs 22:10 teaches us to “cast out scorner and contention will cease”.
Be blessed, I love you!
