I do not doubt that many of us want to lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. We want to be law-abiding and mind our own business on the quiet in all godliness, but this hope has eluded many of us because we have ignored the one thing that can make this life possible.
[1 Timothy 2:1-2 KJV] “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
What then is this one thing that can make this life peaceable?
The one thing that can afford us to lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty is to supplicate, pray, intercede, and to give thanks for all men, kings, and people in authority.
1. God is calling on us to pray for all men because no man is an island.
Our lives are indeed interconnected and the only way you will be left alone to enjoy your quiet life is when others have found their peace as well. Remember that people make life turbulent and chaotic. When people are good, society is better. Let us pray, supplicate, intercede, and give thanks for all men; for our children, friends, family, and community at large.
2. Remember to pray for kings, because when the wicked rule; the people suffer.
When the wicked rule, the people suffer. Remember that where the word of the king is there is power. We must, therefore, bring the kings before God, that He might turn their hearts well.
The kings have power and authority, let us pray that they use it well. If the king makes bad laws or formulates bad policies, we cannot live a peaceable and quiet life in all godliness and honesty.
3. Let us pray for people in authority; they enforce laws and policies.
The difference between a king and a person in authority is that the king makes and ratifies laws, but people put in authority enforce the laws.
A corrupt person with authority will abuse the power and privileges he has. Let us pray that the king will appoint the right people into places of authority.
How can I pray and intercede for all men, kings, and people in authority?
Prayer is a commitment and not a reflex action. Until you purpose, plan, and organize, you cannot pray. The simple tips to pray is to;
- Appoint a time and duration for the prayer. You must determine when and for how long you will pray. That is one of the first tips to pray effectively. For instance, you can determine that you will pray, say, every Monday at 5 am for half an hour for all men, kings, and people in authority.
- Find a place of prayer; A good place of prayer should be free from interference and not a nuisance to others. (See Mark 1:35)
- Make a prayer list; Write down things you want to discuss with God concerning the people, the kings, and institutions.
Benedictions
May the Lord help you to be able to pray ceaselessly for all men, kings, and people in authority! I pray that we will be committed to this call and never relent. May God open His ears to our prayers.
We decree that any decree contrary to the will of God will not be ratified by the kings. May God give great wisdom to kings and people in authority. May they enact laws that will advance the cause of the kingdom of God.
