I want to exhort and teach you how to serve in a ministry. The truth is, ministry or church is multifaceted; there are so many skills that come to play in building a ministry or church that rise and raise others.
What then are the tips to serve in a ministry for growth? The Bible tells us that;
[Mark 3:13-19 KJV]“And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: And Simon he surnamed Peter;”
“And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house”.
The Lord is always calling people. The Bible says “many are called but few are chosen”. Why will He call many and choose a few? There must be a reason. The truth is, many who are called do not serve the purpose for which they are called. Many become a pain in the neck of those who called them. Many become a disincentive to their senior pastors rather than being helpers.
I pray that as you respond to the call to serve, you will not cause trouble but will be of great help. I pray that you will serve well and bring joy to your pastor and the Lord.
3 simple tips to serve in a ministry or a church and be a blessing that brings growth are;
- Decision
- Involvement
- Compliance
1. The first tip is to decide to serve:
Everything begins with a desire and decision. Until you are decided to do it, it is impossible to do it. When the Lord called those that He wanted, they came and stayed.
He called twelve and they were all willing to follow, love, and serve for growth and increase. God is looking for people who have decided to serve.
You must do it out of a willing mind and heart. Let each of us decide to serve and serve for increase.
2. The second tip is to get involved:
It is not enough to be decided but you must get involved in the work of ministry. “Go labour on; spend and be spent”.
It’s the way the Master went. Ministry is work and you must get involved in the work. You cannot be an armchair executive in ministry. “He called them that they may abide and that He will send them”. There is work to be done and you must get involved in the work. Let us get involved and work with might.
3. Finally, learn to comply.
“Two cannot walk together, except they be agreed”. You must comply. You must not have an independent spirit. You must learn to do things as you are told and in the way you are required.
Judas betrayed Jesus because he could not comply. The secret to growth and increase, as learned from the story of Babel, is agreement. Every team that can grow a ministry or church to reach others must forge for compliance and synergy. We must be one and speak one language. We may have different skills and be different people but we can all fall in line and not break ranks.
Growth and increase come through being one and speaking one language. We must comply with policies and procedures, and ethics and conduct, if we want to serve in a ministry or church. “It is required of a steward to be faithful”
Conclusion
I have no doubt in my mind that God will send men to this vineyard to help in bringing in the end-time harvest and you are one of them.
My desire and prayer are for you to be useful for the ministry. You will not be a pain in the neck of your leader. Your pastor will find your presence pleasant and God will bless you.
Stay blessed
