[Exodus 14:8-16 KJV] “And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.”
“But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi–hahiroth, before Baal–zephon.”
“And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord .
“And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.”
“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord , which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
“And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.”
I want to speak to you about what you must do if you find yourself stuck between the oppressor and an impossible barrier. We will draw our lessons from the story of Israel being released from the servitude in Egypt to go and serve God. There are times when the oppressor enjoys your services so much that he will be unwilling to let you go except by a mighty hand and power.
I pray for the release of power and a mighty hand to secure your redemption and deliverance from sin, oppression, and infirmities! I pray for your release from poverty and anxiety! Be liberated from oppression in the name of Jesus!
In the text above, we see four different actors: the oppressors, the liberated, the deliverer, and his God.
Each of these actors is going through different phases of their lives.
The oppressor had been hardened by the Lord. God was working in his life but to a different end. God was working in his life but for a different purpose. It is not enough to have God working in your life; you must discover what God is trying to do in your life.
The liberated was being led by the appointed deliverer. The liberated had a role to play in all this.
The deliverer was also a man under divine instruction. He was supposed to be led and instructed by God to lead the people.
What do you do if you are stuck between the oppressor and an impossible barrier?
- Cry out to God; He can hear your cry for help and answer.
- Hold your peace; don’t murmur against the spiritual authority set over you.
- Fear not; the Lord will fight for you.
- Maintain your composure; stand still and be still.
- Listen and obey the spiritual authority over you.
These are the five simple things you can do when you get stuck between the oppressor and the impossible barrier. The same God who started a good work in you shall finish it.
