[Luke 17:1-4 KJV] “Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him , through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.”
“Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him”
I want to speak to you today about the dangers of offenses and how to deal with them.
In my work as a pastor and missionary, one common thing I have seen and observed in the church which can wreck any church is offense and bitterness. Bitterness is a root that can defile many; it spreads so fast that when not curbed or rooted out quickly, can defile many.
Offense is one of the key interpersonal relationship issues that most often than not can affect the church. The Lord stated clearly that it is impossible to say that none will be offended in the church. He states that offense will surely come, but you should never be the cause of offense.
In any case, one may offend another; so if you feel offended, it’s proper to approach the offender and state your case. If he repents, it is only Christian to forgive him.
We must always look at forgiveness and restoration of relationships and winning each other over. You should never allow offenses to lead you into bickering and fighting. We must strive to keep the brotherly bond intact.
Stay blessed
Amen
