[1 Kings 3:3-15 NLT] “Solomon loved the Lord and followed all the decrees of his father, David, except that Solomon, too, offered sacrifices and burned incense at the local places of worship.”
“The most important of these places of worship was at Gibeon, so the king went there and sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings. That night the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!””
“Solomon replied, “You showed great and faithful love to your servant my father, David, because he was honest and true and faithful to you. And you have continued to show this great and faithful love to him today by giving him a son to sit on his throne.”
“Now, O Lord my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around. And here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted!”
“Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”
“The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. So God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies— I will give you what you asked for!”
“I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life!”
“And if you follow me and obey my decrees and my commands as your father, David, did, I will give you a long life.” Then Solomon woke up and realized it had been a dream.”
“He returned to Jerusalem and stood before the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant, where he sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then he invited all his officials to a great banquet.“
I am committed to lead you to pray certain important prayers that will make your Tuesdays terrific and blessed. The story of Solomon’s dream and God giving him the opportunity to ask what he wants teaches us four key things people ask when they have power and are in charge.
When people are in charge; when they have power they often ask for long life, wealth or the death of their enemies. These are the prominent prayer topics of the high and mighty. God was really surprised when Solomon did not ask for any of these things.
Solomon rather asked for a wise and an understanding heart to govern. He asked for what will help him to excel in his assignment. There is an assignment that God has given us. We must seek first the kingdom and the righteousness of God. We must seek for what it takes to excel at fulfilling our God-given assignment.
God, however, added wealth, fame and honour to Solomon. Wisdom without wealth and honour leads to frustration. The Lord gave Solomon more. “I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame!”
The Lord promised to add to him long life if he will listen and obey His voice. “And if you follow me and obey my decrees and my commands as your father, David, did, I will give you a long life.” Long life is on condition that you will obey God as your fathers did. God gives long life to those who listen.
From these lessons, we must pray this day trusting God for a breakthrough.
Say with me:
Father, life is about all that matters. I pray this day that you shall give me eternal life. I pray that you shall preserve my life and help me to walk in health. I decree that any power that is projected against me to waste my life is rebuked. I shall not die but live to declare the testimony of God. I receive life and I pray for divine healing and health. None of the diseases that came upon the Egyptians can ever touch me.
Dear God, give me a wise and an understanding heart. May I not miss the way. May I continue in wisdom and understanding as I serve Your purpose on the mountain. Continue to guide my heart in wisdom! Let me not miss the way.
I decree that wealth and honour are coming to me as I serve You faithfully. Anything in my life that mocks my testimony is subdued. I receive wealth and honour. I will never know dishonour nor shame in the mighty name of Jesus. I subdue every power and attitude that causes poverty. I am honoured and prospering even as my soul prospers!
Thank You for an answered prayer. May Your hand be with me and keep me safe. Thank You, LORD!
Stay blessed
