Any attempt to plant a church without a church planting team is a suicidal adventure. You cannot do it alone. You may start alone like Jesus but your primary focus should be to pray and recruit pillars for the church plant.
Every church planting effort requires three sets of teams:
- The lead pastor
- The core team
- The operational team
Biblically, the church is built on the foundations of apostles and prophets; with Christ as the cornerstone (See Ephesians 2:20-22)
These are supported by evangelists, teachers, and pastors. The church will grow when these gifts work in unison and together (See Ephesians 4:10-16).
The lead team
This is the first family, the lead pastor, his wife and his children. (Apostles and or Prophets). These are the foundational gifts; the most important gifts of laying a foundation to church planting. These are the pioneering gifts, the inspired selfless, self-starters.
The core team
- The evangelist: Pastor in charge of evangelism (publicity and promotion and marketing pastor. He is charged with making the church visibility and accessible)
- The teacher: Pastor in charge of training (this is the equip pastor.)
- The pastor: Pastor in charge of church care and support. (the care and shepherding pastor)
Operational team
As lead pastors, we must strive to develop these teams to assist us in carrying out the commission God gave us.
Stay blessed
