[Matthew 6:19-21 KJV] “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
I want to encourage you to lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven; where rust and moth cannot corrupt nor thieves break into it.
- Treasure, we know, is wealth or riches stored or accumulated, especially in the form of precious metals, money, jewels, or plate.
- Treasure can also mean anything that you value so much.
We all desire to lay up treasure but most often than, not moth, rust, and thieves corrupt the treasure we build. It is, therefore, important not to just focus on laying up treasure, lay up the treasure in a safe or a vault. The safest place to lay up treasure is in heaven. That is the place where neither thieves nor rust nor moth can corrupt.
It is important to also inform you that three key things are considered in heaven as treasures. One day I was travelling to an African city in the East; so I need to change currency; my travel adviser told me to carry pounds instead of dollars; for the simple reason that pounds are more valuable in that city than dollars. Every city has its nature and some things are more valuable there than others. Water will be more valuable in a desert than fire. In heaven, three key things are acceptable as treasure:
- Alms offered in privacy
- Prayer offered in privacy without vain repetition or showmanship
- Fasting offered in privacy
These are the three key things that are seen as treasures in heaven: your alms, prayers, and fasting. Heaven has enough respect for these things done in privacy and not for attention.
Stay blessed
