[Luke 11:13 KJV] “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?“
The anointing is the smearing or the release of the Holy Ghost and His power into or upon a man. This is usually done symbolically by the pouring of oil upon or the laying on of us. The Bible teaches that whereas God could randomly select a man to anoint; He actually gives the Holy Ghost to anyone who will ask Him.
You therefore have a responsibility to ask for the Holy Spirit. You have a responsibility to stir up the gift of God in you. Sometimes, you are not required to ask for the out pouring of the Holy Ghost but to stir up the gift in you and the unction upon you.
How then do you pray for this great experience? How do you pray for the anointing? As a child of God you must be able to release the unction to function when it is needed most.
- The first step to pray for the anointing is to spend time listening by faith. Galatians 3:5 teaches that God ministers the anointing by the hearing of faith. If you truly want to be anointed, for any reason; if you are seeking the anointing to heal your body; to heal the sick, or to serve in missions; learn to spend quality time listening by faith.
- The second step is to bask in an atmosphere of quality worship of spiritual songs with your mind and heart focused on the anointing. You arrive here quickly when you are seated, lying down, kneeling, and/or standing with hands lifted and eyes closed. You should avoid distractions.
- The third step is to pray in an unknown tongue. This is how you stir the anointing. When you pray in an unknown tongue it’s your spirit that prays, your understanding is unfruitful.
- The fourth step is to ask the Father directly to anoint you; stating clearly what you need the anointing for. You may say “Father, anoint me to heal the sick, cast out devils, and work miracles!”
- Then spend time worshiping and ministering to the Lord as in Acts 13. They fasted and ministered to the Lord.
Stay blessed and God bless you!
