[Genesis 30:27 KJV] “And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.“
Inasmuch as I believe in setting up on your own to be your own boss, I must admit that not every one has what it takes to set up as soon as others might think. It takes a lot to set up a start up. You can however increase your value as you work a 9-5 job. You can build value and capacity into yourself, but how?
I shall in the next few paragraphs outline 5 simple things that increase your value as an employee. Here is how;
1. Build the neccessary experience that match the job description in your future:
While David kept the sheep of his father, he built the necessary capacity to fight Goliath, while no one was watching. He built the credentials for the next big challenge, while he was with his King Saul. David trained under the Lord to be king and a warrior while he was still shepherd. While you take care of 7 children as a preschool teacher, build the neccessary capacity to supervise 10 teachers who do same.
2. Embrace change positively by developing the neccessary skills and attributes to adapt faster to new and challenging task:
David performed excellently as a shepherd over a few sheep; and performed excellently fighting gaints; when he was called to serve in the Palace, he behaved himself wisely; he excelled when he had to escape to Adullam; David did well in Ziglag with his men; and yet excelled as king in Hebron. David was versatile and self motivated. He could encouraged himself even in the face of great adversity.
3. Take responsibility for your professional development:
Remember, new levels will require new skills and ability, take responsibility for your personal development. Read, take classes, and develop professionally. Nobody wants to employ a liability.
4. Deliver positive returns to your boss early:
Nobody employ a none entity or a liability, let your employer feel the impact of your contribution. Don’t be a man pleaser but deliver results. No talking, talk is cheap; let your results speak for you.
Stay blessed
