A disciple is a person who is following and learning from a master. We are disciples of Christ and we follow to learn. I want you to understand the reality, the call, the cost, and the rewards of discipleship.
The reality of life
The first thing you must understand as a disciple is the fact that the whole world lies in wickedness. In fact, there is even a wicked one seeking to touch and oppress you. This is a fact, people you deal with have a tendercy to hurt you rather than help you. The whole world lies in wickedness, but your faith insulates you from the effects and influence of wickedness.
“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness”. (1 John 5:18-19 KJV)
The call to discipleship
The Lord, in the next text, is teaching that we are called to come to Him, to take His yoke upon us, follow Him, and learn from Him. We are supposed to learn to be meek and lowly in heart.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30 KJV)
The cost of discipleship is loss, rejection, and death
“And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34 KJV)
The rewards of discipleship
“Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.” (Mark 10:28-31 KJV)
I pray for you that as you wake up and work both smart and hard;
- You will earn
- You will eat without scarcity
- You will clothe in purple and linen
- You will be in health,
- You will have peace and
- Be filled with joy
- You will build
- You will drive
- You will marry and raise children of your own
Stay blessed
