Matthew 6:9-13 KJV — After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. [10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
[11] Give us this day our daily bread. [12] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Beyond being a guide to devotional prayers, Matthew 6:9-13 teaches 7 very important truths:
1. You are not alone; you have a father in heaven and a family on earth
This is the first lesson, the Lord’s prayer teaches. Don’t you ever think that you are alone and have no one; you are not alone. He has promised never to leave nor forsake us. When you wake up in the morning, just remind yourself that you are not alone. Studies have shown that loneliness is a new pandemic among many young people today; but reminding yourself that you are not alone can help solve this challenge.
2. Your father in heaven has a kingdom on earth that must advance
You must be willing to invest your talents, gifts, skills, strength and resources to advance the kingdom of God on earth. When you seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, He adds all other things to you.
3. God has a plan for your life. He has a perfect will for you
He has works He has prepared before the foundations of the earth, for you to walk in. Jeremiah 29:11 reveals that He has a thoughts and will to bring you to the expected end. Romans 12:1-3 teaches that when you offer yourself as a living sacrifice, you will discover that perfect will for you. The Lord’s prayer reminds us to be yielded to the will of God daily.
4. God can supply all of your needs according to his riches in glory
It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, your job or work is only one of the channels to gather the riches. God can give you your daily bread. Supernatural supply is real. Those who buy into the covenant enjoy the blessing.
5. Offences are a normal part of life
Make rooms for offences. You must be willing to forgive those who offend you; and also admit your wrong when you fall into sin. Many people are unable to finish their race well because of offenses and grudges. When you don’t accept that offences will always come, your love will wax cold. I pray that you shall stay above bitterness and grudges. May you forgive those who trespass against you! May you also seek the forgiveness of those you trespass against!
6. The sixth lesson the Lord’s prayer teaches is the fact that there are temptations and evil in the world
The whole world lies in wickedness; and we must seek the guidance and deliverance of the Lord. Whether you know it or not is not an issue. There are temptations and evil in the world, beware. Always rely on the Lord to lead you away from temptation and deliver you from evil.
7. The last lesson the Lord’s prayer should teach you is the truth that there is no kingdom, power, and glory more mighty than the kingdom, power, and glory of God.
The doxa and shekinnah glory of God is weighty and bright. There is no power that is above the power of God! There is no glory above the glory of God! There is no kingdom above the kingdom of God. We have the ultimate power, glory, and kingdom.
It’s My Prayer that as you go on your knees daily, speaking to the Lord these lessons will settle in your heart. May you never feel so lonely and discouraged but be assured that God will never leave nor forsake you because you are the apple of His eye.
