Luke 19:12-13 KJV — He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. [13] And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
1. Many people fail in life because they don’t know the difference between being a servant and being a citizen:
There is a difference between being a servant and being a citizen. Servants enjoy the benefits of covenant but citizens don’t. The man in the text above called his servants and offered the talents of capital to work but those who complained were his citizens. Many people fail in their assignment because they listen to citizens when they are servants who must have a covenant arrangement with the master.
2. Others fail in their assignment because they don’t keep their assignment primary:
You must be consistent with your assignment. You must always remember what the initial task is and keep it consistent. The man in the text was going to receive a kingdom from a far country. He had no intention of ruling over any body in this city but the citizens misrepresented his motives and intentions.
3. Many more fail because they listen to the gainsaying of the naysayers:
They listen to the misrepresented opinions of others. You can do far better when you stick to the factual narrative. His citizens said “we will not have this man rule over us!” But the man did not say I want to rule over you. He only gave capital to his servants to occupy till he returns.
4. A few more fail because they don’t keep their plans flexible:
I have one counsel for you; keep your assignment consistent but your plans, flexible! Your plans can change but not your assignment. He only instructed them to occupy till he came. There was no micromanagement. You must be flexible with your plans. When the servant saw that his master wanted to reap where he had not sowed, he could have put the money to usury to get interest. He could have given the money to the bankers.
