“Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth. Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us. Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.” – Psalm 80:1-3 KJV
The psalmist lifts a cry of desperation but with faith, calling upon God as the Shepherd of Israel. Just like a shepherd tends his flock with care, guidance, and protection, so God watches over His people.
Yet here, the people recognize that without His intervention, they remain weak, scattered, and vulnerable. Their plea is simple yet profound: “Turn us again, O God.” It is a reminder that restoration and revival begin when God turns our hearts back to Him.
Notice the threefold request in this prayer: “Give ear,” “stir up Thy strength,” and “cause Thy face to shine.” They long for God’s attention, His mighty power, and His radiant presence. This is the secret to true salvation and lasting change—not human effort or strategies, but God’s shining face upon us. When His presence lights our path, darkness flees, hope is renewed, and salvation is assured.
Today, this psalm invites us to pray for a personal and corporate revival. Where we have strayed, let us ask the Shepherd to turn us back. Where we feel weak, let us invite His strength to stir us again. And where the shadows of despair seem heavy, let us cry for His face to shine upon us. Truly, when God’s face shines, His people are never the same.
Let this be your prayer today: “Lord, turn me again to You. Shine Your face upon my life, my family, and my nation. Save us, not by our works, but by Your power.”
Prayer Points:
- Lord, turn my heart fully back to You and keep me from wandering.
- Father, stir up Your strength in my weakness and be my salvation.
- Lord, cause Your face to shine upon my life and let Your glory bring restoration.
Amen
