Romans 1:16–17 (KJV) — “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
The book of Romans was written by Apostle Paul to a church he had not yet visited, yet deeply loved. He desired to establish them firmly in the truth of the gospel.
Surrounded by a proud and sinful Roman culture, many believers were tempted to feel ashamed of their faith. But Paul boldly declares that the gospel is not something to hide, it is God’s mighty instrument for saving humanity. In a world trusting in power, status, and wisdom, Paul points to the gospel as God’s true power.
To believe the gospel is not merely to agree with facts about Jesus; it is to place your full trust in what He has done. The gospel proclaims that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again so that we might be saved. This message is not weak, outdated, or symbolic, it is powerful. When a sinner believes, chains of sin break, guilt is removed, and new life begins.
Many people look for salvation through good works, religion, or personal effort. But God has chosen a different way: salvation comes through faith in the gospel. When you believe, the righteousness of God is credited to you.
You stand before God not by your own goodness, but by the finished work of Christ. That is why Paul says, “The just shall live by faith.” Your Christian life begins by faith, grows by faith, and is sustained by faith.
So do not be ashamed. Do not doubt. Believe the gospel, for in it is everything God has provided for your salvation and victorious living.
Amen!
