[Proverbs 26:2 KJV] “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come”.
I want to exhort on all you need to know about curses, because there is so much wickedness and evil around you. There are many people around you who are not happy that your life is running the way it is. I pray that the Lord will open your eyes to the reality on the ground. Balak wanted to curse Israel for no reason. He just wanted to overcome them and drive them out of the land. There are many people acting and operating around you whose sole purpose is to hurt or harm you.
One of the main questions people have asked over and over again is, ‘can a Christian be cursed?’ Technically, a Christian cannot be curse but many of us are not ‘Christians;’ we are not Christ-like, perfect, or holy. There is a lot of imperfections and unholiness in us. That makes us susceptible to certain kinds of curses and evils. When Balaam could not curse Israel he tried to introduce them to perversion.
The truth is, a believer can still be cursed but you can galvanise yourself against curses. Remember, there are three types of curses:
The curse of the law; As revealed in Galations 3:13, we learn that “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law” but not from every curse. There are others types of curses that operate differently.
The second type of curse is the curses invoked or imposed by enchantment, divination, witchcraft or magic. This is what Balak tried to do with Balaam. He wanted to curse Israel by enchantment and divination. Number chapter 23 reading from verse 18 onwards revealed that it was impossible to curse Israel because at the time there was a word concerning Israel by God. There was no perversion in Israel, the shout of the king was among them, the presence of the Lord was among them, and the word of the Lord had gone forth. There was referring to specific time and season. In Isaiah 43:27-28, we understand that when Israel sinned, God handed them over to a curse and to reproach. Let’s us be careful with curses.
[Isaiah 43:27-28 KJV] “Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me. [28] Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches”.
The third type of curse is a curse with a cause. A curse resulting from actions. Hebrews 6:1-10 teaches that when you bring forth fruits that are not beneficial and hurt those by whom you are watered and dressed, are nigh unto cursing. Proverbs 26:2 says “a curse causeless shall not settle” but a curse with a cause shall settle. May the Lord help us to streamline our actions to escape curses.
May the blood of Jesus Christ that speaks a better word than Abel help and sustain you. May you be blood-washed and escape the curse that stems from disobedience! May the Lord help you and may His face shine upon you.
Be blessed, I love you!
