Today’s devotional is on why you need to avoid distractions; our Scriptures will be from Philippians;
[Philippians 3:7-16 KJV] “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness,”
“which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”
“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.”
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
“Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.“
In the text above, Apostle Paul is teaching us the secret to advance and maintain momentum. He teaches that;
- You cannot excel in the journey to destiny if you can’t let go or lose certain things. He was able to choose right because he counted certain things that were dear to him as dung or nothing. You cannot carry everything with you to every where. Some things that were gain to Apostle Paul, he had to consider as dung.
- He knew exactly what he wanted, he knew what he was pursuing. He was not following what was popular or seemed good. He knew what was expected of him.
- He had not arrived where he wanted to be but was sure to get there because he was focussed on the one thing that mattered most and he avoided the distractions.
- He pushed himself beyond his comfort zone . He was willing and ready to stretch a little. He pushed and pushed hard and harder daily.
You will not excel in marriage or relationship if you have to stop and consider every proposal that comes to you. You should be able to conclude that I am in a relationship; case close. Many women and men who live loose lives got there because they gave thought to every proposal that came their way.
You can’t stop to ponder every job opening. You must be a person of conscience and know that I don’t switch camps just because someone of a more advantaged positioned came along. That is crazy!
When Balaam could not curse Israel, he advised Balak to distract them with their beautiful daughters and sons. This worked out because Israel lost focus and forgot God’s instructions, and it is working in the lives of many people today.
You must learn to avoid distractions at all cost.
Stay blessed!
