“And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.” (Mark 5:1-8 KJV)
We have been speaking about victory over demonic spirits, and today, we want to discuss controlling spirits and how to deal them.
What are controlling spirits? Controllings spirits are demons that possess the human soul and body, and literally try to modify and control the person’s behaviour.
When these demons possess a person, they try to control:
What the person wears:
The man wanted to be naked. He was naked. Demons influence our sense of fashion.
Where you want to spend your time:
The man wanted to live in the cemetry among the dead and in tombs. These demons isolated the man and made him a social deviant. What atmosphere do you enjoy? The spirits in you determine
where you want to spend your time.
What you say:
Demons control what people say, because they control how you think. They fill you with paraniod ideas.
How you treat your body:
Unless you have demons, I cannot understand why you want to tattoo your body. The man was cutting himself with stones.
How you relate with the Church and with Christ:
When demons gain access to your life, they begin to fill you with hatred for the church. You begin to think that it is too much to be in church and do the things that God desires.
Demons can make you resent the presence of God.
These demons make you always go over board and stubborn. You become uncontrollable and unrestrained. Demons make you lose your self control. Sometimes they attack your appetittes and make them insatiable. Demons can make you have an insatiable appetite for sex and food. They can make you violent and loud.
The simple secrets out of their bondage are:
Worship at the feet of Christ:
Whenever you come to church or even at home, spend more time in an atmosphere of worship (See Psalm 149). God is seeking true worshippers. Worship in truth and in Spirit.
Be honest and acknowledge the truth:
When our Lord Jesus asked for his name, he did not lie about it. He acknowledged that he had many demons.
Be willing to lose the demons and to obey Christ:
Without a geniune quest to follow and to obey Christ, you will remain in bondage.
May the Lord graciously speak a word that can liberate you from every controlling spirit in Jesus’ name!
Today’s prayer
Pass me not oh Gentle Saviour! Hear my humble cry. When on others Thou art calling, Do not pass me by!
Amen
Stay blessed!
