I want to start sharing with you about spiritual dangers, and the first one I will talk about is the danger of being corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
[2 Corinthians 11:1-3 KJV] “Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. (2) For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ”.
Christ and the ways of Christ are simple and not complex. But traditionally, when it comes to spiritual matters, many of us in will aggravate towards complex or cumbersome things than to simple and easy to understand things. This is a danger we are all prone to and face. This is a trap that we must strive to avoid at all cost. Don’t be fooled by the charades and dramatisation that accompany some of the ministrations.
Unfortunately, in the church, even a simple worship concert may not sound powerful except we bring on board sound effects, lightening effects, and special sometimes coloured smoke makers. Inasmuch as all these things are helpful accompaniments, we should not become dependent and corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
When you become corrupted, even your kind and spirit may not be able to receive your pastor because he humbles or abases himself. The Apostle Paul faced people who despised him in his church in the city of Corinth because;
- He preached the gospel for free
- He did not takes wages for services he rendered
- He was not a burden to the church
Dear Man of God, you will save the church if you take your wages.
[2 Corinthians 11:7-9 KJV] “Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? (8) I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service. (9) And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself”.
I pray that you will bear with me. Don’t get corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. Jesus Christ is simple and not complex. Don’t be fooled by the drama that you see in other places. Let no man think of me as a fool.
May the Lord help everyone of us to escape this spiritual danger! Many have fallen and died there. Don’t fall into the trap!
Remember, if it is of God, it must be simple and not complex.
- How did the walls of Jericho fall? March around it in seven days quietly once a day, but on the seventh day march seven times and add a shout of praise (See Joshua 6:3-5)
- How was the leprosy of Naaman healed? Go and bath in the Jordan seven times (See 2 Kings 5:10).
- How did David kill Goliath? With one shot of stone from a sling (See 1 Samuel 17:49).
- How did Peter heal the lame man? “Such as we have, we give. In the name of Jesus rise up and walk!” (See Acts 3:6)
If it is of God, it must be simple and easy but many of us are impressed and drawn to complex things. And really, this is a sign immaturity and foolishness.
Let us learn to keep life simple and relevant, and focus on the essentials. Don’t complicate your life. Keep it simple.
Stay blessed; I love you!
